Neuroinfectious Diseases & Global Neurology Fellowship Position in International HIV Cure Research

Currently accepting applications for 2025

The INHCC is a research collaboration directed by Serena Spudich, MD (Yale University) and Lydie Trautmann, EngD, PhD (MHRP) with investigators based at multiple sites in the USA, operating numerous neurological and infectious diseases research studies related to acute HIV infection and cure strategies in Thailand and Africa. Our mission is to provide cutting-edge investigation and expertise in central nervous system (CNS) aspects of HIV infection relevant to pathogenesis, treatment, and HIV remission, or 'cure.' The primary protocol, operating in Thailand, has enrolled over 700 study participants since its inception in 2009. Currently, active protocols enroll people with HIV within the first month of HIV exposure.

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible physician to conduct research for 12 months, based in Bangkok, Thailand, with additional fellowship training experience possible at one of our US-affiliated institutions or from a remote location with capability to easily work with US-based staff.

The 12-month fellowship position will involve providing primary hands-on neurological expertise at our research site in Bangkok, Thailand, including conducting neurological evaluation of subjects and completing medical evaluations and lumbar punctures, while developing an individual research portfolio. It is expected that the incumbent will actively participate in manuscript preparation and direct analyses for publication as lead author.

The fellowship program leaders have extensive experience as career and research mentors and will provide guidance and assistance in data analysis and preparation of presentations and manuscripts, as well as in independent fellowship and grant applications. Opportunities exist to extend the commitment, based on funds availability and productivity. It is also possible to combine this position with a two-year T32-funded neurology clinical research fellowship training program based at Yale.

Position requirements:
  • Completed neurology or internal medicine training as of 1 month prior to start of fellowship
  • Outstanding writing skills, preferably with a publication track record
  • Broad-based communication skills, preferably with demonstrated capabilities of working in an international setting

Application requirements:
  • Current CV
  • Cover letter describing reasons for interest in the fellowship and how the fellowship contributes to the candidate’s career goals
  • 2 reference letters (can be submitted after initial application)
